How We Help
For farms to thrive, we need to create a social, economic, and political landscape that values farming.
Through grassroots organizing and advocacy, policy change, research, storytelling, and your commitment to local farms, we are helping create an environment that will support thriving, interconnected Maine farms. We partner with farmers, our members, policymakers and other stakeholders to shift public perceptions and create policy change at all levels of government.
Our work is:
Decisions made in your town office, Augusta, and Washington, DC affect day-to-day operations on farms across the state and have a profound impact on our local and regional farm and food economy.
Long-lasting change starts from the ground up, and our success in changing the landscape in favor of Maine farms is rooted in the farmers and members in our network.
We conduct research, prepare reports, and share stories to inform policymakers about issues affecting Maine agriculture and grow public awareness of farming.
Maine Farms is an annual journal created especially for Maine Farmland Trust members. The journal takes a deeper look at what’s happening in food and farming with fresh stories and photographs from Maine writers and creatives.
