December 15, 2020

In early December over 200 MFT members and supporters tuned in for our 2020 virtual annual meeting! While we wish we could've seen you all in-person, it was great to feel the sense of community online and see so many friends tuning in from near and far. The evening program focused on the impact of climate change on Maine's farms and food system. We heard from five community members who are working at the intersection of food, farming, and climate change — and are finding hope. Big thanks to our presenters for sharing their work with us:

Tony Sutton, PhD, Community Food Facilitator at the ME Shellfish Learning Network and Adjunct Instructor at University of Maine, Orono

Kate Olson, Maine-based writer and PhD candidate in sociology at Boston College

Nick Jackson, farmer at Jackson Regenerational Farm in Atkinson

Laura Demmel, coordinator for the Open Technology Ecosystem for Agriculture Management (OpenTEAM) initiative

Melissa Law, farmer at Bumbleroot Organic Farm in Windham and member of the Maine Climate Council

Folks who tuned in also got to hear from MFT's Policy and Research Director, Ellen Stern Griswold, our Membership Director, Caroline Ginsberg, and Caitlin Hopkins, Lands Project Manager and emcee extraordinaire!

At MFT, we know we are stronger together, and that it will take all of us to create lasting solutions for a better future. With your support, we can protect farmland for future generations, empower farmers, and connect farmers to land so they can help feed local communities and steward our natural resources for future generations.

Support a resilient future for Maine farms today!
