Shopping at the Belfast Farmers Market just got easier for everyone. Whether you receive benefits from SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), formerly known as food stamps, or don’t carry much cash because you use your debit or credit card for purchases, you can now use both an EBT card and a debit/credit card at the Belfast Farmers Market.

The process is simple. Check in at the Maine Farmland Trust’s market booth to pick up your vendor sheet. Shop at the vendors of your choice. When you're ready to make your purchases, hand each vendor the tracking sheet. They will tally up your purchases and mark the total next to their farm name on the sheet. When you are finished shopping, return to Maine Farmland Trust’s booth to check out and swipe your card.

The Belfast Farmers Market will be at Aubuchon Hardware on Route 1 in Belfast Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m until March 28, 2014. During the summer, the market is located at Waterfall Arts on High Street in Belfast.

Other farms and markets in Waldo County that accept SNAP include: Village Farm and Freedom Farm, both in Freedom, the Monroe Farmers Market, the Brooks Farmers Market and the Unity Farmers Market.
